Something different
[original title: Etwas anderes]
Switzerland 1987. 16mm, VHS, colour, 31 min.
Everyday life and the desire for something different. Intoxication, The misery of addiction. Crisis as opportunity. And the misgivings of another kind of daily routine. A type of documentary portraying a 60-year-old alcoholic man who has been "on the wagon" for the past six years:
"The daily routine was such that after kork I wanted something different - I wanted to be in harmony with my innermost feelings. That was the main reason for my drinking. That first drop of alcohol relived me of a lot of pressure. The unfortunate thing was I couldn't stop."
"If you never offend in life - if I hadn't had this addiction, then things would have been normal and my life would have been superficial. But I've often asked myself if one must reach such a low level, if one must live through such misery, in order for something else to be possible."
